Barnhart Balfour Beatty, and joint venture partner Austin Commercial, was retained to build a $53.5 million secure baggage screening conversion at Ontario International Airport for Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).
The project includes construction of two In-Line Baggage Screening Systems at Terminals Two and Four. The project also includes replacement of the existing airline baggage handling spaces and outbound baggage conveyor systems, construction of new baggage screening rooms, and installation/integration of TSA-provided Explosive Detection System (EDS) machines.
The baggage handling systems represent approximately $15 million of the total project value. The work also includes relocation of six existing Passenger Boarding Bridges and installation of six new Fixed Link Walkways that will transport passengers to and from the terminals, across the new buildings and onto aircraft.
