Barnhart Balfour Beatty was retained by California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) to construct a new $51 million state-of-the-art College of Education building and provide $22.4 in renovations to the existing CSUSB Sciences Building.
The College of Education is the largest and most technologically advanced building on the CSUSB campus. Features include a new student services area, literacy center, four large computer labs, technology support center, “smart” classrooms, 110 faculty offices, wireless network access and 15 lecture classrooms.
The new College of Education building alleviated chronic space shortages in classrooms and laboratories while addressing the clinical and technological needs of the College’s baccalaureate and graduate programs. The new building brings together faculty, staff, classrooms and laboratories in the same facility to help enhance the functioning of all departments. Students have improved access to laboratories, study areas and faculty offices.
The project was designed by LPA Architects and measures more than 130,0000 square feet (130,000 gross square feet).
Renovations to the Sciences Building updated approximately 100,000 square feet of functionally obsolete research and instructional space in the Biological and Physical Sciences building and the Animal/Greenhouse Complex. The project included upgrades to the building systems to meet current building code requirements and remodeled lab space to conform to contemporary laboratory design guidelines. The buildings were originally constructed in the 1960’s. The latest renovations were designed by Baner & Wiley.
